Is a 5-point harness safer than a seat belt?
Yes. A 5-point racing harness offers greater safety than a standard 3-point seat belt at racing speeds. By securing the driver at the shoulders, waist, and between the legs, it distributes forces more evenly and keeps the body firmly in place during high-speed impacts or sharp cornering.
Are 5-point harnesses street legal?
No. 5-point racing harnesses are not street legal because they do not meet Department of Transportation (DOT) standards. Without a proper roll cage system, they can even be dangerous for everyday driving.
